The "Kaiserwinkl" holiday region has become famous for its traditional, unusual and imaginative events

Festive events

The holiday region "Kaiserwinkl" has made a name for itself in recent years thanks to its traditional, unusual and imaginative events. Whether it be the "Koasalauf" in winter or the "Kasfest", the "Egascht Festl" or the "Harley Davidson" meeting etc… in summer, there's always something to do.

The popular "Alpine dance evening" takes place in our Kaiseralm restaurant, every Friday during the high season from 20.30 onwards.

Because of their popularity with other guests and because they are a tradition, here are the highlights of "Kaiserwinkl's" events:

"Kaiserwinkl" Alpine ballooning week

Kaiserwinkl Alpine Ballooning Week

The yearly end of January ballooning week, offers you an unusual spectacle.

At that time, the sky over "Kaiserwinkl" is coloured by balloons, and one can actively follow the progress of professionals taking part in the race. Over two dozen balloonists from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Great-Britain and the Czech Republic meet to compete in the "Kaiserwinkl" competition.

Visitors and spectators will find an extensive supporting programme. Daily take-offs and landings are scheduled in Kössen and Walchsee, and there is the possibility to take a balloon ride.

Koasalauf

In Tyrolean dialect, "Koasa" means "Kaiser" (emperor). The cross-country competition, named after the "Koasa" mountain range, is a free-style international event of over 50 km, already in its 35th year.

The event takes place yearly in February, starting and finishing in "St Johann in Tirol". The finishing line for the 30 km free-style competition is in the sports ground in Kössen.

Kössen's cheese festival

Kössen's cheese festival

Kössen's cheese festival takes place in late May and early June. You can sample satisfying cheese specialities and watch cheese being hand-made.

Taking place at the same time is a farmers' market with schnaps and wine tasting. Dynamic folk music lends itself to active folk dancing.

Egascht Festival

Egascht Festl

The "Egascht Festl" takes place at "Fischangerl" in Walchsee, every year on Whit Sunday. Traditional Handicraft, entertainment, food and refreshments are all part of the feast.

The extensive programme and authenticity of the sequence of events has made this festival extremely popular, not only in the "Kaiserwinkl" region, but far beyond the Bavarian border.

What does "Egascht" mean? It means the "first harvest", in other words the first harvested hay used to be called "Egascht Mahd".

"Days of Thunder" - Harley Davidson Meeting

In mid June the famous Harley Davidson meeting brings thundering sounds to "Kaiserwinkl".

Kössen's live-stock migration

Kössen's live-stock migration

Hardly any other custom attracts as many locals and visitors. At the end of September, farmers take their spruced up cows with loud bells around their necks from the pastures to the village. The animals wear beautifully lavish handmade headgear.

Daily farming life combined with substantial live entertainment and music, is always a strong attraction.

Our constantly updated calendar of local happenings provides information about events in the campsite, in Kössen, and in the surrounding area.
