Kössen parish church

Kössen parish church

The village parish church of SS Peter and Paul is an impressive ancient memorial as well as a sanctuary of the lower Tyrol region.

A church was first mentioned in "Kössen" in 1197. At the beginning of the 16th century, a church was erected in late-Gothic style. Over the years, the church failed to fulfil the parishioners' needs and in 1719 it was decided to build a new edifice in Baroque style.

The 14 Stations of the Cross by Simon Benedikt Faistenberger (oil on copper) are of particular interest.

Maria Klobenstein pilgrim church
Maria Klobenstein pilgrim church

In the romantic valley carved out by the River "Grossache" on the border of Tyrol and Bavaria, stands the Maria Klobenstein pilgrim church.

The carved stones located next to huge rocks beneath the church are the symbol of this place. In 1701 it was decided to build the "Loreta Chapel" which was solemnly consecrated in 1707 by the prince-bishop of Chiemsee.
